🚀 January 28th, The Ordinary Space Lesson That Never Was

🚀 Born in 1948, Sharon Christa McAuliffe was a high school teacher. With her messy curly hair and a bright, beaming smile, she was an ordinary working mom of two.

Her wish was simple: she said she just wanted to "move her classroom to space." She was a candidate who constantly pondered how to best convey the wonder of the cosmos to children. Beating the staggering odds of 11,416 to 1, she was selected for NASA's 'Teacher in Space Project.'

However...

On this day, January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger, carrying her and six other crew members, exploded mid-air, claiming all their lives.

It happened just 73 seconds after liftoff. The cause of the catastrophe was a defect in a small rubber seal known as an O-ring.

Her dream, however, did not end there. 21 years later, another teacher (Barbara Morgan) completed her lessons in space, fulfilling her legacy. And her daughter, who was only six years old when she watched the tragic launch, followed in her mother's footsteps to become a teacher herself.

"In eternal memory. May they rest in peace. 🎗️
