💔 February 7, Hate Cursed Love

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina swallowed the magnificent city of New Orleans. Along with hundreds of thousands of displaced people, over 1,400 lives were sacrificed. Budget cuts for levee maintenance had left the defenses weak, allowing 80% of the city to be submerged.

On September 5th of that year, a statement by Reverend Pat Robertson made headlines:

"The hurricane happened because of the homosexuals living in New Orleans."

Donations poured in for the pastor. He was the leader of a massive broadcasting missionary empire. He had even run for President of the United States.

✝️ On this day, February 7, 2006, amidst cold rain and sleet... At the solemn funeral of a widow, members of the 'Westboro Baptist Church' appeared. They staged a protest holding picket signs. They had already received multiple restraining orders from the court to stay away from this widow's family.

"God hates homosexuals and their enablers. God hates Coretta Scott King. God is now torturing her with fire and brimstone, and the smoke of her torment is rising."

They even operated a website showing the name of a deceased homosexual man, counting the days he had been burning in hell.

The widow whom they hated so much was Coretta Scott King. Following in her late husband's footsteps, she was a human rights activist who fought fiercely all her life for women's rights, the elimination of racial discrimination, and the rights of minorities, including the LGBTQ+ community.

She was laid to rest beside her husband, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
